CMA Student Awards

30 Jul

I’m a huge fan of case competitions as a great way for students to gain practical skills. I find that cases provide exposure to a range of industries, develop your analytical skills, and of course, you have the challenge of presenting or writing under tight timelines. The Canadian Marketing Association is running a case competition with 2 categories: Creative and Marketing. If you’re a student, consider entering as an individual or as a part of a team.

The Co-op Scoop: If you don’t have a lot of work experience, case competitions can help you to build an impressive resume. Plus, getting practise writing and presenting will help a lot during interviews!

Details can be found here: http://www.the-cma.org/awards/studentawards.html

Just for entering, you’ll get a CMA membership. And, if you win, you’ll get $500, exposure on the CMA site, and the chance to accept your award at the Awards Show. So, what are you waiting for? Get started!

All entries must be submitted by October 6, 2011!

Walk so kids can talk

28 Mar

Kids Help Phone is an amazing organization that has been providing youth with non-judgemental, sound advice since May of 1989! The organization provides free and confidential professional counselling via phone and online forums. They offer advice on anything concerning youth – Ā breakups, suicide, divorce, bullying, etc. What’s important to KHP is that, if a child needed someone to talk to (even if it was something trivial like a boyfriend not texting back), someone was there to help them.

The organization prides itself on being accessible to youth. You’ll find their phone # plastered on all kinds of products (e.g. chocolate bars) and soon, they will be available to chat via IM! In order to continue providing these great services to kids, KHP fundraises over 25% of their operating budget from the annual Walk so Kids can Talk event. It’s a family-friendly event, so sign up to walk today. If you cannot make it out to the walk, please donate and encourage your friends to do the same!

BMO Money Diaries #1

26 Oct

On of the projects that I’m working right now is with BMO and Cossette. Basically, BMO is going to give me $1000 to share my student woes and thoughts about saving money. I swear, out of everyone in our U of T group, I seem to be the SAVER! I’m also making three personal diaries to document this, which will be posted shortly. Let me know what you think! Can students and money get along?

Five students – five perspectives. All coming together to chat about how to financially survive the school year, share tips and tricks on how to make your money go further and — most importantly — how to break free from the bank of mom and dad.
